The play is based on Neil Simon's work as a writer for Sid
Caesar on "Your Show of Shows.” Lucas Brickman, a naive young writer based on
Simon, is hired by Max Prince, the famous yet volatile television host. Max's
writing staff includes characters based on some of comedy's biggest names,
including Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, and Woody Allen, who all got their start on
Caesar's television programs. The play takes us inside the insanity of the
writers room for a hilarious and touching story of network politics, damaged
masonry, and thrown shoes.
